Some of the loveliest winter holidays can begin at Bournemouth Airport, close to home, with no long drive round to Gatwick before your holiday has even begun.
This winter you can fly direct from here to Madeira, Tenerife, Malta and Malaga, and next summer the list stretches out across the Greek islands to Corfu, Kos and Crete.
We love that, and we think you will too.
The flight is the easy bit, though. The hotel at the other end is where a holiday becomes something lovely, and that's the part we most enjoy helping you with.

Winter sun from Bournemouth
Picture a morning at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama in Tenerife. The air is already warm on your arms, the sea is bright and blue, and La Gomera sits out across the water, close enough to feel like part of the view.
Later, dinner can be at M.B, which holds two Michelin stars, and you realise you haven't thought about home once.
Winter sun feels even warmer when you haven't had to drive all the way to Gatwick to find it.
If you'd like something more relaxed, we'd look at Domes Baobab Suites in Costa Adeje, which is designed around year-round island life.
Tenerife is one of four Canaries you can fly to from Bournemouth this winter, alongside Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Malta, Malaga, Antalya on the Turkish coast and Agadir in Morocco are on this winter's list too, with Malaga new for Jet2 this season.

Madeira, and afternoon tea at Reid's
Madeira is the one we'd choose for a gentle winter week, and there's a weekly flight from Bournemouth right through the winter.
In Funchal you'll find Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel, which the Reid family opened in 1891. Its Traditional Afternoon Tea is served on the Afternoon Tea Terrace.
We can't think of a nicer way to spend an afternoon than with a pot of tea, something sweet and nowhere else to be.
It's the sort of small, lovely detail we like to build a whole trip around.

Lapland, Iceland and a Caribbean cruise
Winter from Bournemouth has a few lovely surprises, too. Three, in fact.
In December there are Lapland trips from here, starting with a day trip to Enontekiö on Wednesday 9 December. Short breaks to Ivalo follow, two or three nights long, leaving on 15 and 18 December.
There's something rather wonderful about setting off to find Santa from your own local airport.
In February, there's a single three-night trip to Reykjavík, from 12 to 15 February, and because it's a one-off rather than a route, it feels all the more special.
And on 23 January there's a charter flight from Bournemouth to Barbados, sold together with a 14-night Caribbean cruise on P&O's Britannia. It's a cruise charter rather than a scheduled route, so the flight and the cruise come as one, and Barbados from Bournemouth still makes us smile.

Next summer, the Greek islands
You're wandering through the lavender mazes at Ikos Kissamos in west Crete before breakfast.
The scent stays on your fingers, butterflies lift and settle as you pass, and beyond the garden the day is warming up slowly.
It's around 45 minutes from Chania airport, and Domes has two Chania hotels of its own as well, Domes Zeen and Domes Noruz.
Greece is where our hearts go first next summer. It always is.
On Corfu there's Ikos Odisia, set in 60 acres of lush greenery, and Ikos Dassia, as well as Domes Miramare, built by the Onassis family, whose guests have included President Eisenhower and Maria Callas.
On Kos, Ikos Aria is around 20 minutes from the airport. Corfu, Kos, Rhodes and Heraklion are all a direct flight from Bournemouth next summer, and Chania is on Ryanair's timetable from June.

A few new places for next summer
We'd take the Friday flight to Paris and leave the whole weekend free. A long lunch at a pavement table, a slow walk along the Seine as the lights come on, and then the Monday flight home, with only a short drive at the other end.
A long weekend in Paris without going anywhere near Gatwick feels like a small luxury all of its own.
Paris is one of a handful of new routes from Bournemouth next summer, with Jersey on Saturdays, Lake Garda and Verona on Wednesdays, and Reus in Spain on Sundays from 2 May.
They sit alongside the summer favourites, from Palma, Menorca and Ibiza to Faro, Dalaman and Antalya.

Come and plan it with us at No.82
When you come in to see us, we'll start with the dates you have in mind and the flight that suits them, then spend the lovely part of the time on where you'll stay, which room and how you'd like the days to feel.
We'll check each hotel's own season against your week too, because a route in the timetable and an open hotel don't always line up.
And if Greece is calling, our Ikos Supper Club at No.82 on Thursday 22 October is a lovely place to start. Ikos has resorts in Corfu, Kos and Crete, all a direct flight from here.
Perhaps this is the year your holiday starts a little closer to home.
We'd love to help you plan it.
Come find us at No.82.
